Mother’s Biscuits
Many memories of these delicious, flaky biscuits topped with strawberries, or maple syrup, or butter with a mug of steaming cocoa alongside for a light Sunday night supper. This recipe originally came from Grandma Woods (Percy's mother).

Ingredients

flour
(sifted)

baking powder

baking soda
(scant)

shortening
(or butter)

buttermilk
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°.

Sift into a bowl: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Cut in the shortening or butter until clumps are about pea sized.

Add buttermilk, stir minimally. Put on a floured surface, knead lightly, no more than 16 turns.

Pat out to 1/2" - 3/4" thick. Cut rounds with a biscuit cutter (or a glass). Re roll scraps and cut more biscuits. Repeat until all the dough is used.

Place on a baking sheet, bake at 400° for 12-15 minutes, until starting to turn golden on the edges.
