Mother does not remember where she got this recipe, but she has it first at Larry and Kathy’s wedding.

  • Combine beef, onion, and pepper in the bottom of a heavy pot. Cook on medium heat until meat is browned and vegetables are softening.
  • Stir in all remaining ingredients. Cook over low heat about one hour, stirring occasionally.
  • Serve with corn bread.

Notes

This is also great started in the slow-cooker before you leave the house in the morning. How nice to come into the house after a full day's work and have supper ready! You may need to simmer it at a higher temperature with the cover off to evaporate a little while you make the corn bread or a salad.
